Lest We Forget

Today is ANZAC day.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

San Sebastián, or Donostia as it is called in Basque,
is relatively small in size (186,000 inhabitants).

Being a rainy day we decided to visit The San Telmo Museum, located in the Old Town, at the foot of Mount Urgull
It is primarily dedicated to Basque culture and history.
The collection contains more than 26,000 ethnographic, archeological,
historical, photographic and artistic elements.

The original building was a Dominican convent from
the 16th century. It's quite unique
due to its mixture of gothic and renaissance styles integrated with
new building, designed by the architects Nieto y Sobejano
being added to the museum a couple of years ago,
 .
This contemporary and vanguardist architecture
added to the overall appeal of the complex,
creating a very interesting mixture of old and new.
We were delighted to find the museum entry is free on Tuesdays.
Here are a few of the exhibits...

As we were leaving we were very surprised to find the museum does not have a gift shop...instead it has a bar that serves coffee, wine & pintxos! An added bonus with your museum ticket...
you can buy a coffee and a pintxos for €2!
(about A$2.80)

We strolled around the old town for a while
before the rain chased us home...

We got all dressed up to go out for dinner tonight and when we opened the front door it was VERY cold and wet outside so we decided to stay at home...our personal chef whipped up an omelette, with mushrooms, jambon and something green a bit like baby spinach. It was delicioso:-)

We're hoping for less rain tomorrow.

Today we walked 11.2k's.
