Pintxo, siesta, pinxto!

It's 4pm and the other two amigos are having a siesta!
We've walked 12.3k's so far today and plan to walk back
to the old town tonight to try some more pintxo...we love them.
We were very happy to see the sun shining this morning
and set off for Monte Igueldo, just west of town.
The scenery as we walked along Concha Plage was beautiful...

In the photo above you will see a multi-story hotel and a tower
on the top of the Monte Igueldo...that's where we were headed.
From base of the mountain we travelled up to the summit
via the old-world funicular railway.
The views over the vast panorama of the Bahía de la Concha and
the surrounding coastline and mountains are stunning.

We enjoyed coffee and cake with a view at the hotel cafe...
Andrew saved a spot for us!

Then it was time to travel down from the summit
via the funicular railway.

We enjoyed the walk back to town along the promenade,
we're very happy that the rain has cleared today.

On our way back to the apartment we wandered through
the commercial and shopping district,
the Área Romántica, its handsome grid
of late 19th-century buildings and beautiful gardens
made for a pleasant walk.
We were so close to the pinxto bars
we decided to have lunch on the way through,
we sat at a table outside Bar Atari,
opposite the steps of Eglise Santa Maria,
a lovely view and great food.

We headed for home via the east side of the river,
through the district of Gros, a pleasant enclave
that has a relaxed ambience and the surfing beach of Playa de Gros.
A particular ice cream shop has been recommended
and this is the second time it's been closed
when we've gone looking for it!
Luckily we had some pain au chocolat at home
to have with coffee for afternoon tea!

I think I'll have a siesta now...so I'll be ready to go out pinxto bar hopping tonight. We'll be sad to leave San Sebastian in the morning,
our time here has been most enjoyable.
