Antibes

While I was finishing off the blog last night
Andrew took a few nightime photos in Avignon...

The beautiful bell tower atop Place de l'Horloge

Today we drove 253 k's from Avignon to Antibes, stopping along the way in Aix-en-Provence to take a stroll along the Cours Mirabeau with its plane trees, fountains and cafes.

Of the four fountains along Cours Mirabeau and our favourite was the Hot Water Fountain, known as the Mossy Fountain because of the thick moss covering it, is the one where the water from the Bagniers spring flows at a temperature of 18°C. This was the first fountain built on the Cours and it is still fed by the spa water.

Toward the end of our wanderings we were drawn to some music and a wonderful voice...we stood and listened for some time and were quite entranced...
of course we just had to buy the CD.

I'll try to include a link I found that shows him busking in Nice.

We decided to stay a little longer in this beautiful town and found a little cafe where we sat at the window and enjoyed watching the passers by...we noticed another interesting bell tower.

On arrival in Antibes were greeted by our host Flavien who doesn't speak much English but we managed to follow his instructions on the wifi and how things work at the very nice apartment we have rented from him for the next 4 nights. I'll try to include some photos tomorrow. We spent the late afternoon and early evening exploring this stunning town...
Our first stop was the marina...and oh what a marina it is...
it claims to be home to more super yachts than any other marina in the world!

This boat is very aptly named 'Bliss'.

Some of the smaller yachts.

In the background of this photo (to the left) you can see Fort Carré...
used as the villain's fortress in the James Bond film, Never Say Never Again (1983).
If you look carefull you'll also see the snow capped Alps in the back ground.

We walked back to our apartment through the very pretty old town...

I didn't mention that our apartment has great views over Place de Gaules...we're on the third floor and there isn't a lift...because we're staying 4 nights ALL of our luggage needed to be hauled up the three flights of stairs! Andrew is going to sleep very well tonight.
We walked 15.5 k's today!
