We
decided to have a quiet day and
spent
the morning wandering around
Our
first experience was damp and cold
so
we decided to have another attempt on a dry and much warmer day.
We
enjoyed discovering the beguiling maze of cobbled streets
lined
with 14th
to 16th
century half-timbered
and
slate-clad townhouses adorned with exquisitely carved figures.
If you look carefully you'll see Andrew in the photo above.

Tours
is situated at the junction of the Loire and Cher Rivers
From
May through to September “Les Guinguettes” restaurants
with
open-air dance halls are set up on the banks of the Loire.

We
were tempted by the fragrance of delicious golden brioches
floating
from the hundred-year old bakery on the corner of rue Bordeaux,
while
I went in to buy one for us to have with a coffee this afternoon
Andrew
took this photo of the beautiful Tours railway station.

During
our time in Tours we have seen
what
appear to be fighter jets
usually
in groups of two,
flying
overhead two or three times a day.
We
discovered that an airbase of the French Army,
Base
AƩrienne 705 is located nearby,
to
the north of Tours.
Google
tells us
Each year, about fifty pilot students and sailors
leave the flying school of the 705 air base in Tours
with their diploma in hand.
The selection to achieve this is very strict.

This afternoon we are packing up ready to leave Tours
for Bayeux in the morning.
We walked 10.2 k's today
