Today
we explored Monaco, a 56k drive from Antibes.
Monaco
is a tiny independent city-state on France’s Mediterranean
coastline known for its upscale casinos, yacht-lined harbour and
prestigious Grand Prix motor race, which runs through the streets once a year. Monte-Carlo, its major district, is home to an
elegant belle-époque casino complex and ornate Salle Garnier opera
house. It also has many luxe hotels, boutiques, nightclubs and
restaurants.
I
had the opportunity to strike a pose at The Casino...why not!
The
Casino entrance...Andrew admired the cars...wall to wall Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Bentley, Maserati, Porsche,
Lamborghini and of course Mercedes. We saw LOTS of these cars all over the place in Monaco.
A
big tennis tournament is on at the moment...hence the tennis balls.
How's
this for a snazzy little Police car...it's a two seater, one seat in
front with a small seat directly behind it. Andrew thinks it would be
perfect for dashing up to Balwyn for milk and bread!
A
beautiful doorway at the ornate Salle Garnier Opera House.
Apartments
in Monaco...it's mountain goat territory.
The
yacht in this photo is HUGE!
Preparations are underway for the Formula One GP in Monaco...
This famous hairpin bend is close to the casino.
Some of the stands are under construction.
Who
could that be behind the wheel with Juan Fangio,
he won the Monaco
GP in 1951, 54, 55, 56 & 57!
Part
of the track from on high.
We
visited the Prince's Palace located in a unique setting on the 'Rock'
of Monaco, the tour was wonderful but we were not allowed to take
photographs. The tour takes in the public areas and they are all very
opulent and rich in history.
We
were just in time for the changing of the guards.
From
there we explored some of the small streets...
Did
you notice the mountain in the background?
Monaco
Cathedral is a very short walk from the Prince's Palace.

The
roof has spectacular mosaics...
We
couldn't help but notice St. Michael...
just for you Dad, my dear brother and Michael Drinkwater ( Peta's fiance) too!
We
keep saying “no more boat/yacht photos”
but can't help posting these...

This

'Royal
Romance' is my pick
We
enjoyed our day in Monaco, interesting to have a glimpse
of the
lifestyles of the rich and famous.
We
walked 11.4 k's today & think we might need a rest day soon!
